CBD vs THC: What’s The Difference?

There has been a recent explosion of interest in cannabis related products – or perhaps the interest has always been there but people are more willing to talk about cannabis products these days. Whatever the case may be, when considering cannabis products, it is always helpful to have the correct information – a good place to start is to compare the differences between CBD vs THC.

CBD and THC are two of the 113cannabinoid chemical compounds found in hemp and marijuana plants. They affect the human body by interacting with the endocannabinoid neural pathway and most importantly they produce different effects.

What Is THC?

THC or tetrahydrocannabinol activates CB1 and CB2 to receptors in the endocannabinoid system. This compound is known for producing marijuana’s “high” sensation and it alters the bodies state and results in feelings of relaxation.

What is CBD?

CBD on the other hand interacts with the endocannabinoid pathway more indirectly compared to THC through a process called modulation. CBD can prevent the enzymes that breakdown the body’s own cannabinoids resulting in increased levels of these cannabinoids. CBD is however not psychoactive and does not produce the “high” feeling mentioned earlier. Because of its effects and wide interaction with the body, CBD is gaining interest for its medicinal purposes.

So What Is The Difference?

The first important difference is the legal status of the products. The laws surrounding THC for example are often linked to the marijuana laws of the state and therefore may be illegal, legal or legal for medicinal purposes depending on which state you live in. CBD and CBD products such as CBD oil on the other hand, is legal in all 50 states.

Secondly, it is clear that CBD and THC produce different effects in the body and are therefore used to achieve different goals. For example, THC can be used as an appetite stimulant, painkiller or even just for the euphoria or “high.” CBD on the other hand can be used to treat certain anxiety disorders, aches and pains, inflammation or even as an aid to help lower blood pressure.

If you are considering using cannabis products, it is important to be educated about them to ensure that they are appropriate for your desired use. It’s always essential to familiarize yourself with the legal status of the different cannabinoids in your area so that you can make informed decisions.
